Williams scores 30 points in Martin County's win over Jenkins

JENKINS — Laken Williams scored a game-high 30 points to lead Martin County over 15th Region rival Jenkins 64-46 in a girls' high school basketball game on Wednesday, Jan. 19.

Martin County shot 41.7 percent (25 of 60) from the field in the 15th Region matchup. The Lady Cardinals shot 57.9 percent (11 of 19) from the free-throw line.

Excelling offensively, Williams shot 85.7 percent from inside the arc, connecting on 12 of 14 field goal attempts.

In addition to Williams reaching double figures for Martin County, Katie Marcum netted 16 points in the non-district game.

Jenkins shot 33.3 percent (14 of 42) from the field. The Lady Cavaliers shot 55.2 percent (16 of 29) from the free-throw line.

Nearly recording a double-double, Lindsey Rose scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Jenkins in the girls' high school basketball matchup. Rose was the only Jenkins player to reach double figures in scoring.

Cadence Firth scored eight points for Jenkins while Alexis Richie netted seven points. Richie paced Jenkins inside, pulling down 13 rebounds.

Martin County defeated Jenkins for the second time in the 2021-22 girls' high school basketball season.
