Whisenant pitches perfect game, Bulldogs blank Bobcats

PRESTONSBURG — Lawrence County blanked Betsy Layne 10-0 in five innings during the semifinals of the 58th District Baseball Tournament at Prestonsburg on Monday, May 19.
After notching the win, Lawrence County advanced to the 58th District Baseball Tournament title game.
Logan Whisenant pitched a perfect game for Lawrence County and earned the win on the mound. Whisenant recorded seven strikeouts.
Eli Jarrell started on the mound for Betsy Layne and suffered the loss.
Contributing on the mound during the district tournament game, Keaton Brown pitched in relief for the Bobcats.
Lawrence County scored 10 runs on nine hits. Whisenant (one hit), Tyger Cavins (three hits, two RBIs), Cameron Perkins (two hits, two RBIs), CJ Whitt (two hits), Colin Howard (one hit), Boedy Maynard (one RBI) and Gray Derifield (one hit) each contributed at the plate in Lawrence County’s shutout win.
In the other game played during the semifinals of the 58th District Baseball Tournament, Floyd Central topped Prestonsburg 7-3.
