Lady Bulldogs win seventh straight 58th District title

PRESTONSBURG — Lawrence County shut out Floyd Central 10-0 in the 58th District Softball Tournament title game at Prestonsburg on Wednesday, May 21.

Gracie Preece hit a walk-off home run to lift Lawrence County to the district championship-clinching win.

Taylor Blevins pitched a two-hit shutout for Lawrence County and earned the win in the circle. Blevins recorded nine strikeouts.

Whitley Hall started in the circle for Floyd Central and suffered the loss.

Following Hall, Maddy Engle pitched in relief for the Lady Jaguars.

Hall and Engle combined to record three strikeouts for Floyd Central during the district title game.

Lawrence County scored 10 runs on 14 hits. Preece (three hits, three RBIs), Emalynn Kitts (three hits, three RBIs), Jada Patton (two hits, three RBIs), Bree Jones (two hits), Aleaha Gillispie (two hits), Ella Smith (one hit), Addalyn Woods (one hit) and Leah Branham (one RBI) were Lawrence County’s key offensive contributors. Providing a lift at the plate, Preece, Kitts and Patton each homered for the Lady Bulldogs.

Mia-Queen Gilliam (one hit) and Cadyn Roberson (one hit) chipped in offensively for Floyd Central during the district title matchup.

Both Lawrence County and Floyd Central advanced to the 15th Region Softball Tournament.

Blevins named 58th District Softball Player of the Year: Lawrence County junior Taylor Blevins was named the 58th District Softball Player of the Year.

Abby Maynard, Gracie Preece, Bree Jones, Addalyn Woods, Jada Patton and Emalynn Kitts accompanied Blevins on the All-58th District Softball Team. 

Andrew Mortimer
