Tigers upend Pikeville, 6-2

PIKEVILLE — Winning on the road, visiting Paintsville upended Pikeville 6-2 in the 15th Region Lead-Off Classic on Tuesday, March 15.

Zach Taylor started on the mound for the Paintsville and claimed the win in the Tigers’ season opener. Taylor held Pikeville scoreless, allowing only one hit and one walk while recording five strikeouts over four innings.

Contributing on the mound for Paintsville, both Ashton Miller and Zach Cline pitched out of relief roles.

The Tigers moved ahead early. Paintsville led 6-0 before Pikeville crossed home plate.

Miller paced Paintsville at the plate, delivering three hits in four at-bats. The productive Miller doubled and drove in four runs.

Harris Phelps followed, adding two hits for the Tigers.

Contributing offensively for Paintsville in the win, Jonah Porter, Baron Ratliff and Gunner Collins contributed one hit apiece. Porter, who has returned to the field after suffering an injury during the 2021 high school football season, drove in two runs.

Paintsville 11, Shelby Valley 1 (6 innings)

Remaining in the win column, Paintsville pulled away to defeat Shelby Valley 11-1 in six innings in the 15th Region Lead-Off Classic on Thursday, March 17.

Grayson Peters earned the pitching win for the Tigers. Peters pitched five innings, allowing one run on three hits. The Paintsville starting pitcher gave up one walk while registering 12 strikeouts.

Brock Horne closed the game out on the mound for the Tigers, allowing one hit and holding Shelby Valley scoreless in one inning. Horne recorded two strikeouts.

Paintsville plated 11 runs on 13 hits.

AJ James and Griffin Collins delivered three hits apiece for the Tigers. Collins drove in three runs.

Harris Phelps provided two hits for Paintsville while Peters, Zach Taylor, Ashton Miller, Baron Ratliff and Jonah Porter supplied one hit apiece in the Tigers’ triumph.

Peters, James, Phelps, Taylor, Miller, Ratliff and Porter drove in one run each for the Tigers.

Both Phelps and Taylor doubled in Paintsville’s win.
