Newsome claims 15th victory in UPike win

RICHMOND — After trailing Mount St. Joseph University by 13 strokes heading into the second day of play, the University of Pikeville women’s golf team completed a huge comeback to earn its second team tournament win of the season on Sunday, March 27.
After shooting 373 as a team one day early, the Bears carded a 330 to sprint past the field and win by 15 strokes over Mount St. Joseph. UPike was led by Martin County product Boo Newsome, who won the tournament for her third individual victory of the season with a 152 (80, 72). It is her 15th career victory.
Finishing in second place was Sophie Beverly with a 168 (88, 80). This is her second top-five finish of the season. Finishing in a tie for seventh place was Gabriel Blankenship with a 178 (94, 84) for her second top 10 finish of the season. Also competing for the Bears was Emily Bechtel, who shot a 205. All four Bears improved their score on the second day by eight strokes or more.
