Tigers upend Hornets

SALYERSVILLE — Paintsville rolled past Magoffin County 77-36 in a 57th District boys’ basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 12.

After posting the win, Paintsville evened its overall record to 12-12. The Tigers finished 2-4 in the 57th District.

Paintsville shot 60.8 percent (31-of-51) from the field. The Tigers shot 40.0 percent (10-of-25) from three-point range.

Paintsville shot 100.0 percent (five-of-five) from the free throw line.

Anderson Lauffer (16 points), Parker Helton (15 points), Brock Woods (12 points) and Preston Slone (10 points) each reached double figures in scoring for the Tigers.

Paintsville featured 10 different scorers. Jojo Skaral (six points), Andrew Meeks (five points), Graham Shutts (five points), Kruz Howell (four points), Tucker Hale (two points) and Colton Short (two points) also produced offensively for the Tigers.  

Magoffin County shot 33.3 percent (11-of-33) from the field. The Hornets finished 0-for-12 form three-point range.

Magoffin County shot 63.6 percent (14-of-22) from the free throw line.

Walker Russell (15 points) was the only player to reach double figures in scoring for the Hornets.

The other scorers for Magoffin County were Maycen Allen (seven points), Colin Lovely (four points), Michael Trusty (four points), Jackson Gilliland (two points), Matthew Hall (two points) and Noah Gibson (two points).
