Tigers turn back Cardinals 66-53

PAINTSVILLE — Paintsville pulled away to defeat visiting Martin County 66-53 in a 57th District boys' basketball game on Tuesday, Jan. 25.

The reigning 15th Region champion, Paintsville shot 42.1 percent (24 of 57) from the field. The Tigers shot 35.3 percent (six of 17) from three-point range.

Paintsville shot 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from the free throw line.

Four different Tigers reached double figures in the scoring column.

Colby Fugate scored 20 points to lead Paintsville to the district win.

Connor Fugate and Braxton Tharp scored 13 points apiece for the Tigers while A.J. James added 10 points. Recording a double-double, Connor Fugate pulled down 15 rebounds.

Brady Dingess, Luke Hale and Jordan Dalton combined to lead Martin County in the 57th District matchup.

Martin County is scheduled to host Paintsville for another 57th District boys' basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 3.

Both Paintsville and Martin County are slated to compete in the 57th District Girls' Basketball Tournament in less than one month.
