Tigers top Somerset for Hoskins' first win

SOMERSET — Paintsville notched its first win under head coach Trevor Hoskins on Friday, Sept. 10, defeating 2019 Class 2A champion Somerset 33-6.

The Tigers rushed 34 times for 332 yards and two touchdowns in the game.

Harris Phelps led Paintsville to the win on the road, rushing 19 times for 241 yards and one touchdown.

Behind Phelps, Blayden Sexton rushed nine times for 86 yards and one touchdown for the Tigers.

Through the air for Paintsville, quarterback AJ James completed three passes for 78 yards and two touchdowns. James threw interceptions.

Colby Fugate and Jonah Porter hauled in one touchdown pass reception apiece for the Tigers.

Austin Allen paced Paintsville on the defensive side, recording a team-high 13 tackles.

Somerset was limited to 228 yards in the loss. The Briar Jumpers rushed 33 times for 161 yards.

Brodie Williams accounted for Somerset's only touchdown, reeling in a scoring pass from Josh Bruner.

Paintsville is scheduled to visit Knox Central on Friday, Sept. 17.
