Cardinals defeat Knott County Central for second straight win

HINDMAN — Visiting Martin County defeated Knott County Central for its second straight win on Friday, Sept. 10, winning 48-16 in the Gingerbread Bowl.
The Cardinals rushed 43 times for 394 yards and six touchdowns.
Six different running backs rushed for positive yardage in the Cardinals' win.
Dawson Mills led Martin County to the win, rushing 12 times for 205 yards and four touchdowns.
Behind Mills in rushing for the Cardinals, Branson Smith rushed 12 times for 85 yards and two touchdowns.
Contributing for Martin County on the ground, Kolby Sparks rushed 10 times for 73 yards,
Jason Maynard delivered on special teams for the Cardinals, returning an interception 60 yards for a touchdown.
Quarterback Kizer Slone led Knott County Central through the air, completing 14 of 19 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns. However, Slone threw two interceptions.
Landon Smith led Knott County Central in receiving, reeling in four receptions for 132 yards and two touchdowns.
The Patriots were limited on the ground, rushing six times for 38 yards.
Chuck Mullins and Jaydon Scott combined to lead Knott County Central's defensive effort. Together, Mullins and Scott recorded 26 tackles.
Martin County has the week of Friday, Sept. 17 open on its schedule.
