Tigers top Rebels 62-51

PAINTSVILLE — Shaking off a loss to Shelby Valley from one day earlier. Paintsville topped Tolsia (W.Va.) 62-51 on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Nearing the .500 mark, Paintsville improved to 13-14 after posting the win.

Tolsia edged Paintsville 15-14 in the first quarter but fell behind.

Paintsville led 29-26 at halftime and extended its lead after the break.

The Tigers outscored the Rebels 26-11 in the third quarter to lead 55-37.

Paintsville shot 47.1 percent (24-of-51) from the field. The Tigers connected on five of 20 three-point field goal attempts.

Paintsville shot 69.2 percent (nine-of-13) from the free throw line.

Four Tigers reached double figures in scoring.

Connor Fugate scored 20 points to lead Paintsville to the win.

Along with Fugate reaching double figures for Paintsville, Ethan Cole scored 13 points, Brock Woods netted 11 points and Jase Kinner posted 10 points.

Also, active for Paintsville on the offensive end in the win, AJ James added five points while Anderson Lauffer contributed three points.

Ben Clayton and Bray Mollette scored 12 points apiece to lead the Rebels. Finishing directly behind Clayton and Mollette in scoring for Tolsia, Parker Watts netted 11 points.

The other scorers for Tolsia in the late-season boys’ high school basketball game were Bryson Muncy (six points), David Dingess (six points) and Evan Ball (four points).
