Tigers top Belfry 78-70

PAINTSVILLE — Paintsville pushed past visiting Belfry 78-70 in a boys' high school basketball game on Wednesday, Feb. 3.

After claiming the win, Paintsville evened its record to 4-4.

Belfry dropped to 4-4 as a result of the loss.

Paintsville shot 51.2 percent (22-of-43) from the field. The Tigers were 2-of-15 from 3-point range.

Paintsville shot 66.7 percent (32-of-48) from the free throw line.

The Tigers edged Belfry 34-32 in the rebounding column.

Paintsville received double figures scoring from four different players in the win.

Nearly recording a double-double, Colby Fugate led Paintsville with 25 points and nine rebounds. Fugate paced all players in scoring and rebounding.

Braxton Tharp, followed Fugate in the Paintsville scoring column, adding 20 points.

Jaxon Watts tossed in 13 points for the Tigers while Baron Ratliff contributed 12 points.

Belfry shot 39.1 percent (25-of-64) from the field. The Pirates were 4-of-14 (28.6 percent) from 3-point range.

Belfry shot 61.5 percent (16-of-26) from the free throw line.

Sal Dean netted 17 points to pace the Pirates. Dean was 3-of-7 from 3-point rage.

Joining Dean in double figures for Belfry, Zachary Savage added 16 points and DeMahjae Clark contributed 13 points.

Finishing behind Clark in scoring for the Pirates, Bol Kuir added nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.
