Tigers to open preseason at Bourbon County

PAINTSVILLE — Paintsville is set to visit Bourbon County for its first scrimmage in the 2021 high school football preseason on Friday, Aug. 6.

Host Bourbon County, Paintsville, Boyd County and Russell will participate in the upcoming scrimmage.

Paintsville (Class 1A, District 6) is the reigning Class 1A champion.

The Tigers, following a state championship-clinching victory over Kentucky Country Day, concluded the 2020 high school football season 10-2.

First-year head coach Trevor Hoskins is set to guide the Tigers.

Bourbon County (Class 4A, District 5) concluded the 2020 season 1-6. The Colonels missed out on advancing to the 2020 Class 4A Playoffs.

Boyd County (Class 4A, District 6) showed improvement and finished the 2020 season 4-5. The Lions reached the second round of the 2020 Class 4A Playoffs.

Russell (Class 3A, District 7) was a title contender in 2020, ending the season 7-3. The Red Devils suffered a season-ending loss to eventual state champion Ashland Blazer in the second round of the Class 3A Playoffs.

Paintsville is scheduled to host North Laurel for a season opener on Friday, Aug. 20.
