Tigers take district series from Golden Eagles

PAINTSVILLE — Paintsville swept crosstown rival Johnson Central in a 57th District baseball series Tuesday, April 19-Wednesday, April 20.

Visiting Paintsville pulled away to defeat Johnson Central 15-4 in a 57th District baseball game on Tuesday, April 19.

Ashton Miller earned the win on the mound for the Tigers. Miller pitched five scoreless innings, limiting Johnson Central to one hit while allowing three walks and recording seven strikeouts.

In addition to Miller working on the mound, Jonah Porter, Brock Horne and Zach Cline pitched for the Tigers.

Hunter Blevins started on the mound for the Golden Eagles and suffered the loss.

Along with Blevins, Johnson Central put Mason Baldwin, Dawson Montgomery, Brock Butcher, Jason Price, Matt Crum and Bryce Spencer on the mound during district matchup.

Zach Taylor, Grayson Peters and Austin Allen recorded three hits apiece for Paintsville.

Baron Ratliff followed, adding two hits for the Tigers.

Porter and Ratliff each collected three RBIs.

Taylor and Peters each drove in two runs.

Providing big swings, both Taylor and Ratliff homered for the Tigers.

Spencer paced Johnson Central at the plate, finishing 2-for-2. The Golden Eagles’ leading hitter in the district matchup, Spencer doubled and drove in two runs.

Contributing at the plate for the Golden Eagles, Cameron Kelsey added one hit.

Paintsville 9, Johnson Central 1

Zach Cline and Gunner Collins combined to pitch homestanding Paintsville past Johnson Central 9-1 in a 57th District baseball game on Wednesday, April 20.

Cline earned the win on the mound, allowing one run on three hits and one walk while recording six strikeouts over four and one-third innings.

Closing out the game on the mound for the Tigers, Collins pitched two and two-thirds innings, limiting Johnson Central to one hit while recording five strikeouts.

Cameron Kelsey started on the mound for the Golden Eagles and suffered the loss. Contributing on the mound for Johnson Central, Conner Lemaster and Parker Crace pitched in relief.

Baron Ratliff, Grayson Peters and AJ James recorded two hits apiece for the Tigers. Peters, James, Ashton Miller and Zack Taylor each drove in two runs for perennial title contender Paintsville.

Providing a lift at the plate for the Tigers, Porter homered.

Kelsey and Lemaster paced Johnson Central at the plate, providing two hits apiece. Lemaster drove in the Golden Eagles’ lone run.
