Tigers shut out Bulldogs

PRESTONSBURG — Paintsville shut out Lawrence County 2-0 during the semifinals of the 15th Region Baseball Tournament at StoneCrest on Wednesday, May 27.
The loss eliminated Lawrence County (18-16) from the 15th Region Baseball Tournament.
Paintsville pushed across its first run during the top half of the second inning. The Tigers moved ahead and managed to hold the Bulldogs scoreless throughout the remainder of the region tournament game.
Extending its lead again late in the game, Paintsville added another run during the top half of the seventh inning.
Anderson Lauffer pitched a one-hit shutout for Paintsville and earned the win on the mound. Lauffer recorded seven strikeouts.
Gray Derifield pitched a complete game for Lawrence County and took the loss on the mound. Derifield tallied seven strikeouts.
Paintsville plated two runs on seven hits. Kruz Howell (two hits), Brody Howell (two hits), Shane Blair (one hit, one RBI), Lukas Stewart (one hit) and Dixon Kincheloe (one hit) comprised Paintsville’s offensive attack. Effective on the basepaths, Kruz Howell scored both of Paintsville’s runs.
Breaking up a no-hitter, Boedy Maynard singled for Lawrence County’s lone hit.
The win allowed Paintsville to advance to the 15th Region Baseball Tournament championship game.
