PRESTONSBURG — Lawrence County defeated Paintsville 19-2 in three innings during the quarterfinals of the 15th Region Softball Tournament at StoneCrest on Monday, May 25.
The Lady Bulldogs advanced to the semifinals of the 15th Region Softball Tournament after registering the win.
Lawrence County took control early, outscoring Paintsville 19-1 in the first inning.
Taylor Blevins started in the circle for Lawrence County and earned the win. Blevins pitched two innings and recorded five strikeouts.
Brinley Baisden pitched the final inning in relief for the Lady Bulldogs. Baisden struck out one Johnson Central batter.
Kira Ratliff started in the circle for Paintsville and suffered the loss.
Followig Ratliff, Rachael Roberts pitched in relief for the Lady Tigers.
Lawrence County scored 19 runs on 11 hits. Blevins (one hit, one RBI), Baisden (two hits, five RBIs), Jada Patton (two hits, four RBIs), Aleaha Gillispie (two hits), Skyler Horn (one hit, two RBIs), Emalynn Kitts (one hit, one RBI), Addalyn Woods (one hit), Lexi Cum (one hit) and Ella Smith (one RBI) were each effective at the plate in Lawrence County’s convincing victory. Patton homered while Woods tripled and Baisden doubled twice. Kitts, who hit three home runs for Lawrence County in the 58th District title game, doubled once.
Maggie Music and Nataleigh Webb each hit safely once for Paintsville during the region tournament game. Connecting for an extra-base hit, Music doubled.
Music and Bentley Smith drove in one run apiece for the Lady Tigers.
Lawrence County, Johnson Central, Belfry and Floyd Central each won games during the quarterfinals of the 15th Region Softball Tournament.
