Tigers knock off Shelby Valley 46-44

PAINTSVILLE — Notching its first win in the 2022-23 boys’ high school basketball season, Paintsville knocked off Shelby Valley 46-44 on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
Paintsville won behind a double-double from Connor Fugate. Among the top boys’ high school basketball players in the 15th Region, Fugate scored 20 points and hauled in 14 rebounds to lead the Tigers.
Paintsville shot 32.5 percent (13 of 40) from the field in the win. The Tigers connected on two of 14 three-point field goal attempts.
Paintsville shot 85.7 percent (18 of 21) from the free throw line.
Following Fugate in scoring for the Tigers, Ethan Cole added eight points and Anderson Lauffer supplied seven points.
Shelby Valley shot 41.3 percent (19 of 46) from the field. The Wildcats hit three of 14 three-point field goal attempts.
Shelby Valley shot 60 percent (three of five) from the free throw line.
Caleb Lovins scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Wildcats.
Finishing behind Lovins in scoring for Shelby Valley, Collier Fuller added nine points and Ethan Sykes contributed eight points.
