Tigers drop district game to Raceland via field goal

RACELAND — Peyton Ison connected on a 34-yard field goal as time expired to lift Raceland over visiting Paintsville 23-20 in a Class A, District 6 football game on Friday, Oct. 23. Following the loss, Paintsville slipped to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in Class A, District 6. Raceland improved to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the district as a result of the win. The Tigers lost after leading 1-7 at halftime. Quarterback Jacob Heighton helped to lead Raceland to the win, completing 17 of 29 passes for 166 yards and one touchdown. Heighton, who threw three interceptions, rushed 15 times for 52 yards and one touchdown. Delivering through the air for Raceland, Connor Hughes completed a 15-yard scoring pass. As a team, Raceland rushed 34 times for 145 yards. Jules Farrow and Parker Fannin hauled in one touchdown pass reception apiece for the Rams. Leading the Tigers, Luke Hyden returned an interception 33 yards for a touchdown and added a 10-yard TD run. Harris Phelps provided a 1-yard rushing touchdown for Paintsville in the heartbreaking loss. Phelps rushed 17 times for 118 yards. Through the air for Paintsville, quarterback Jake Hyden passed for 133 yards. Paintsville is scheduled to host Breathitt County for a regular season finale on Friday, Nov. 6.
