Lawrence County pulls away for district win over Floyd Central

EASTERN — Lawrence County pulled away to defeat host Floyd Central 40-24 in a Class 3A, District 8 football game on Friday, Oct. 23. The win allowed Lawrence County to improve to 3-1 overall and 3-1 in Class 3A, District 8. Floyd Central dropped to 2-4 overall and 0-4 in the district following the loss. Lawrence County claimed the number two seed in Class 3A, District 8 after claiming the victory. The Bulldogs and Jaguars swapped leads during the district matchup. Lawrence County and Floyd Central were tied 16-16 at halftime. But Lawrence County controlled the second half, outscoring Floyd Central 24-8 to earn the district win. Blue Fletcher led Lawrence County to the district win, rushing eight times for 105 yards and one touchdown. Following Fletcher, Dylan Ferguson rushed 15 times for 81 yards and one touchdown. Douglas Hall, another productive running back, rushed three times for 62 yards and two touchdowns. Strickland completed three of seven passes for 83 yards. On the ground, Strickland rushed for one touchdown. Danny Hall led Lawrence County in receiving, hauling in two receptions for 65 yards. Andrew Tackett added an 18-yard reception as part of the Bulldogs' aerial effort. Defensively for Lawrence County, Strickland recorded one interception. The Bulldogs returned to the win column following a shutout loss to Belfry one week earlier. Lawrence County is scheduled to host Raceland at Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Stadium on Friday, Oct. 30. In another game slated for Friday, Oct. 30, Floyd Central is set to host Letcher County Central.
