Tigers defeat Floyd Central

PAINTSVILLE — Paintsville defeated Floyd Central 36-14 in a season opener at Memorial Field on Friday, Aug. 22.  

Brian Melvin notched his first win as the Tigers’ head coach.

Paintsville benefitted from a productive rushing attack. The Tigers rushed 26 times for 236 yards and three touchdowns.

Anderson Lauffer paced Paintsville offensively, rushing 12 times for 119 yards and two touchdowns.

Following Lauffer in Paintsville’s rushing attack, Brody Howell took 10 carries for 102 yards and one touchdown.  

Scoring via defense, Jackson Farrar returned a fumble 45 yards for a touchdown in the Tigers’ win.

Colton Short led Paintsville defensively, recording 12 tackles. Behind Short in the key defensive category. Lauffer and Howell posted seven tackles apiece for the Tigers. Creating a turnover on defense, Lauffer hauled in an interception.

Carson Montgomery paced Paintsville on special teams. Montgomery connected on each of his two extra point kick attempts.

Paintsville is scheduled to meet Bath County in the Clark County Hall of Fame Bowl in Winchester at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29.
