Golden Eagles roll past Letcher County Central

ROBINSON CREEK — Johnson Central rolled past Letcher County Central 48-6 in the Blue and White Bowl at Shelby Valley on Saturday, Aug. 23.

Former district rivals Johnson Central and Letcher County Central met for a season opener.

The Golden Eagles scored first and never trailed. Johnson Central entered halftime ahead 34-0.

The Golden Eagles excelled on the ground, rushing 35 times for 332 yards and six touchdowns.

Braxton Perry led Johnson Central on the ground, rushing six times for 88 yards and two touchdowns.

Following Perry, Ryker Yates rushed three times for 77 yards and one touchdown.

Along with Yates, Maddox Bryant, Logan Music and Collin Cantrell added one rushing touchdown apiece for the Golden Eagles. Nine different players rushed for positive yardage in Johnson Central’s win.

Defensively, Dylan Lemaster (eight tackles), Dalton Matney (seven tackles) and Chase Preece (five tackles, two tackles for losses, two sacks) combined to lead the Golden Eagles.

Johnson Central is scheduled to host Madison Central for its home opener at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29.
