Thompson named 15th Region Coach of the Year

LOUISA — Lawrence County head coach Chandler Thompson has been named the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Coach of the Year.

Thompson earned the honor from the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches (KABC).

During the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball regular season, Thompson guided Lawrence County to a first-place finish in the 58th District and a 22-6 overall record.

Currently, Thompson is coaching Lawrence County in the boys’ high school basketball postseason.

The KABC honored coaches from throughout the state. The KABC Coach of the Year honorees were as follows: Region 1 - Brian O’Neill (Carlisle County), Region 2 - Tyler Smithhart (Henderson County), Region 3 - Neil Hayden (Daviess County), Region 4 - Kyle Benge (Warren East), Region 5 - Deron Breeze (Adair County), Region 6 - John Hunt (Fairdale), Region 7 - Kenny Klein (St. Xavier), Region 8 - David Levitch (North Oldham), Region 9 - Nate Browning (Boone County), Region 10 - Jason Hinson (Augusta), Region 11 - Champ Ligon, Jr. (Bryan Station), Region 12 - Jeff Jackson (Lincoln County), Region 13 - Kyle Jones (Harlan County), Region 14 - Al Holland (Hazard), Region 15 - Chandler Thompson (Lawrence County), Region 16 - Buddy Biggs (Fleming County).
