Strong rushing attack leads Golden Eagles over Clay County

MANCHESTER — Johnson Central rushed past Clay County 56-20 in a Class 4A, District 8 game on Friday, Sept. 30.
The Golden Eagles rushed 47 times for 521 yards and eight touchdowns in the win on the road.
Three Johnson Central running backs rushed for over 100 yards.
Halfback Zack McCoart led Johnson Central, rushing 13 times for 192 yards and three touchdowns.
Finishing second in rushing as part of Johnson Central’s offensive attack, fullback Chase Price rushed 15 times for 187 yards and two touchdowns.
Following Price, halfback Mason Lawson rushed 14 times for 137 yards and two touchdowns.
Chipping in on the ground for the Golden Eagles, quarterback Jacob Grimm added one rushing touchdown.
Chandler Spradlin and Logan Music recorded six tackles apiece to lead the Golden Eagles’ defensive unit.
Price and Logan Music added five tackles apiece for reigning Class 4A, District 8 champion Johnson Central.
The Golden Eagles led at the conclusion of each quarter in the district matchup.
Leading Clay County, Tate Rice completed 16 of 35 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns.
Tyson Wagers hauled in 11 receptions for 132 yards and one touchdown to lead a group of four Clay County receivers.
Limited on the ground, Clay County rushed 14 times for 10 yards and one touchdown.
Johnson Central is scheduled to host Perry County Central for a Class 4A, District 8 game on Friday, Oct. 7.
