Bulldogs outlast Boyd County 13-10

CANNONSBURG — Dylan Ferguson rushed for two touchdowns to lead Lawrence County over Boyd County 13-10 in a non-district football game on Friday, Sept. 30.
Boyd County scored first and led 7-0 at the conclusion of the first quarter.
The Bulldogs managed to outscore Boyd County 7-3 in the second quarter, but the Lions held on to lead 10-7 at halftime.
Lawrence County added a touchdown in the third quarter to move ahead 13-10.
The Bulldogs rushed 43 times for 268 yards. Leading Lawrence County in rushing, Ryan Marcum rushed 10 times for 99 yards.
Following Marcum in Lawrence County’s offensive attack, Ferguson rushed 17 times for 91 yards and two TDs.
Aiding the Bulldogs on the ground, Talon Pollock rushed five times for 27 yards.
Defensively, Lawrence County limited Boyd County to 153 yards.
Caden Ball paced the Lawrence County’s defensive effort in the non-district game.
Boyd County rushed 31 times for 130 yards but was held out of the endzone via the ground.
Malichi Wheeler paced Boyd County on the ground, rushing 18 times for 70 yards.
Producing on the ground and through the air for the Lions, Rhett Holbrook rushed 12 times for 59 yards. Holbrook completed five of nine passes for 23 yards and one touchdown. Striking through the air, Holbrook completed a scoring pass to Josh Thornton.
Producing on special teams, Cole Thompson booted a field goal for Lions.
Lawrence County is scheduled to host Pike County Central for a Class 3A, District 8 game on Thursday, Oct. 6.
