Any child age 15 and under is welcome to compete for awards and prizes in the annual free Kid’s Fishing Day to be held on Saturday, June 5, 9 a.m.-noon, at Yatesville Lake State Park Marina, 708 Dam Road, Louisa. Lunch and bait will be provided. Sponsors of the event are the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Marathon Petroleum Marine and other community partners. The Lawrence County Tennis Team has announced its summer schedule beginning on Saturday, June 5, with a “meet the coach and players” event, you can get information to get started. Open courts will be Wed. and Fri., 4-6 p.m., Sat., 10 a.m.-noon, with coach Joey or Shelby. Open to all players, all levels that are interested in playing tennis for the Lawrence County Middle or High School. KHSAA “dead period” June 28-July 9, players will have access to balls and courts during this time to play whenever they want, just no coach supervision or lessons. Look for dates this summer for “Lil Dawgs” for grade school players interested in learning from coaches and players. Players will need their own racquet.
The 8th annual Harper’s Hope Golf Scramble and Auction will be held on Saturday, June 5, at Yatesville Lake Golf Course, 1410 Golf Course Road, off Rt. 32 West of Louisa. Registration and breakfast are at 8 a.m., with shotgun start at 9 a.m. Lunch and prizes will be follow the event, 28 teams will participate.
Harper Randi Webb was born June 4, 2012, and was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome just 11 months later. Angelman Syndrome is a neurogenetic disorder that affects about one in 15,000 people. Harper has a deletion of chromosome 15. Since Harper’s Hope was started in 2014, a total of $110,385 has been raised for research of Angelman Syndrome and is a 501(cx3) non-profit. Kentucky will have a Free Fishing weekend June 5-6. Anyone can fish without a license or trout permit anywhere in Kentucky.
Tolsia Boys and Girls Basketball will host Jon Elmore and Stevie Browning Skills Camp at Rebel Arena, Saturday, June 5, 9 a.m.-noon. The camp is free to all Wayne County students only (must be enrolled in K-8th grade).
The Louisa Swim Team will have tryouts on Saturday, June 5, at 9:30 a.m., open to all school ages children. Fee is $50, this includes team t-shirt. Practices are Mon.-Thur., and will have several meets throughout the summer.
The Lady Bulldog Basketball Camp will be held June 7-8, at Lawrence County High School, 9 a.m., to noon, both days. According to Coach Melinda Feltner, fundamentals will be taught, ball handling, shooting, passing and rebounding. Lunch will be provided. For information, call Feltner at 606-483-1151.
Girls and Boys (grades 6-12) Volleyball Skills Camp will be June 9-11, noon-2 p.m., each day, at the Fort Gay Pre-K-8 School, #1 Viking Drive, Fort Gay. Will teach volleyball essentials for beginners-intermediate. Kneepads, athletic clothing and footwear needed. $60 for all three days. 2021 LCHS Cheerleading Golf Scramble will be Saturday, June 12, at Eagle Ridge Golf Course, Yatesville Lake State Park, Louisa. Hole sponsorship is $100 each. Cost is $50 per person or $200 per team.
