Russell outlasts Lawrence County 43-40

RUSSELL — Russell outlasted Lawrence County 43-40 in a low-scoring girls’ high school basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 13.

Familiar foes Russell and Lawrence County traded leads during the matchup.

Russell shot 36.1 percent (13-of-36) from the field. The Red Devils made one of nine three-point field goal attempts.

Russell shot 94.1 percent (16-of-17) from the free throw line.

Kennedy Darnell scored a team-high 14 points for the Red Devils. Darnell connected on 10 of 11 free throw attempts.

Joining Darnell in double figures for Russell, Kamryn Fleming netted 10 points.

Contributing to Russell’s win, Kenley Kouns and Bethany Allen contributed eight points apiece.

Rounding out the Red Devils’ scoring, Abby Sharp added three points.

Lawrence County shot 31 percent (13-of-42) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs made four of 18 three-point field goal attempts.

Lawrence County shot 83.3 percent (10-of-12) from the free throw line.

Sophie Adkins paced the Lady Bulldogs. Adkins recorded a game-high double-double for Lawrence County, scoring 27 points and claiming 11 rebounds.

Along with Adkins, Lawrence County received scoring from Jada Patton (four points), Maddison Artrip (three points), Caroline See (three points), Abby Maynard (two points) and Gracie Woods (one point).
