INEZ — Martin County defeated Johnson Central 101-89 in a 57th District boys’ basketball game on Friday, Feb. 14.

The Cardinals returned to the win column after suffering three straight losses.

Martin County shot 49.3 percent (36-of-73) from the field. The Cardinals shot 38.7 percent (12-of-31) from three-point range.

Martin County shot 77.3 percent (17-of-22) from the free throw line.

Parker Watts led Martin County to the district win. Watts recorded a double-double, scoring a game-high 39 points and claiming 11 rebounds for the Cardinals.

Following Watts in Martin County’s scoring column, Peyton Davis netted 27 points.

Supplying another double-double for the Cardinals, Bryson Dials scored 18 points and hauled in 10 rebounds.

Giving Martin County four scorers in double figures, Devan Maynard added 10 points.

Providing the rest of Martin County’s scoring, Eli Mills contributed six points and Brayden Estep added one point.

Johnson Central lost despite shooting 50.7 percent (35-of-69) from the field. The Golden Eagles shot 28.6 percent (eight-of-28) from three-point range.

Johnson Central shot 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from the free throw line.

Austin Slone led Johnson Central, scoring 32 points and hauling in 13 rebounds for the Golden Eagles.

Finishing directly behind Slone in Johnson Central’s scoring column, Brayden Shepherd netted 31 points.

Joining Slone and Shepherd in double figures for Johnson Central, Kyle Rose scored 11 points.

Contributing offensively, Mason McKenzie (eight points), Dawson Montgomery (three points), Jaidon Daniel (two points) and Andrew Collins (two points) were the other scorers for the Golden Eagles.
