Pierce qualified for NAIA Championships

Johnson Central High School graduate Byron Pierce has qualified for the NAIA Wrestling National Championships. A Midway University sophomore, Pierce finished fourth in the most competitive weight class at the MSC North Division Championship in Bowling Green on Saturday, Feb. 20. Pierce picked up a 1-0 win over Grant Clarkson of Cumberland (Tenn.) before being sent to the consolation bracket following a loss in the semifinals. He then picked up a pin fall victory before suffering a loss in his third-place match. Pierce captured two state wrestling titles as a heavyweight at Johnson Central High School. The NAIA Wrestling National Championships are scheduled for March 5-6 in Wichita, Kansas.
