Peck named Johnson Central head coach

PAINTSVILLE – Jesse Peck has been named head coach of the Johnson Central High School football program.

Peck, who was introduced as the new head coach of the Johnson Central football program during a press conference held on Monday, Dec. 27, replaced longtime Golden Eagle head coach Jim Matney, who died during the 2021 high school football season.

Peck joined the Johnson Central football program's coaching staff in 2013. A member of the Johnson Central High School Hall of Fame, Peck was tabbed the Golden Eagles' defensive coordinator in 2019.

Prior to returning to his alma mater, Peck served as head coach of the Phelps High School football program.

A former standout for Johnson Central, Peck signed with Marshall University during his senior year. He finished his college career at the University of Pikeville.

Following in his grandfather's footsteps, Peck is the grandson of Bruce Howard, who was the Johnson Central football program's first head coach.

Johnson Central concluded the 2021 high school football season 13-2. The Golden Eagles finished runner-up to Boyle County in Class 4A.

One of the top high school football programs in Kentucky, Johnson Central has won two state championships and finished as the state runner-up in four other years.

Johnson Central will finalize and release its schedule for the 2022 high school football season at a later date.
