Patton’s three-run homer lifts Lady Bulldogs over Taylor County
Lawrence County advances to state tournament’s semifinals

LEXINGTON — Lawrence County battled back from behind to edge Taylor County 3-2 in the quarterfinals of the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Softball State Tournament presented by UK HealthCare at John Cropp Stadium on Sunday, June 8.
Breaking open a scoreless game, Taylor County manufactured a pair of runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning to move ahead 2-0.
However, Jada Patton connected on a three-run home run in the top half of the seventh inning to put Lawrence County ahead 3-2.
Taylor Blevins pitched a complete game for Lawrence County and earned the win in the circle. Blevins recorded five strikeouts.
Maddie Hunt pitched a complete game for Taylor County and suffered the loss in the circle. Hunt recorded three strikeouts.
Lawrence County connected for 10 hits in its winning effort. Patton (one hit, three RBIs), Emalynn Kitts (two hits), Gracie Preece (two hits), Abby Maynard (two hits), Bree Jones (one hit), Addalyn Woods (one hit) and Leah Branham (one hit) each produced offensively for the Lady Bulldogs. Providing another extra-base hit for Taylor County, Kitts tripled.
Taylor County plated two runs on six hits. Nevaeh Kays (two hits, one RBI), Riley Sprowles (one hit), Raegan Cundiff (one hit), Hannah Gupton (one hit) and Ayden French (one hit) each contributed at the plate for Taylor County during the state tournament game. Both Sprowles and Gupton doubled for the Lady Cards.
With the win, Lawrence County advances to meet Assumption in the semifinals of the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Softball State Tournament presented by UK HealthCare at John Cropp Stadium on Friday, June 13.
