Bulldogs outlast Panthers 3-2

PRESTONSBURG — Lawrence County outlasted Pikeville 3-2 in the semifinals of the 15th Region Baseball Tournament at StoneCrest on Wednesday, May 28.

After notching the win over Pikeville, Lawrence County advanced to the 15th Region Baseball Tournament title game.

Lawrence County battled back from behind to register the win. Pikeville led 2-1 at the conclusion of the fifth inning. Lawrence County plated a pair of runs in the top half of the seventh inning to move ahead 3-2.

Logan Whisenant pitched three innings in relief for Lawrence County and earned the win on the mound. Whisenant struck out two Pikeville batters.

Braxton Davis started on the mound for Lawrence County and pitched four innings. Davis recorded three strikeouts.

Isaac Duty pitched a complete game for Pikeville and suffered the loss on the mound. Duty recorded nine strikeouts.

Lawrence County scored three runs on seven hits. Whisenant (one hit), Gray Derifield (two hits, two RBIs), Eli Fletcher (one hit), Tyger Cavins (one hit), Colin Howard (one hit) and Owen Pack (one hit) were each productive at the plate in Lawrence County’s victory. Supplying an extra-base hit, Whisenant doubled for the Bulldogs.

Pikeville pushed across two runs on six hits. Bradyn Hall (three hits), Bash Ryan (one hit, two RBIs), Jackson Hall (one hit) and Gage Burgett (one hit) each contributed offensively for the Panthers. Hall doubled twice for Pikeville during the region tournament game.
