PIKEVILLE — Pikeville defeated Martin County 73-62 in the 15th Region All “A” Classic title game at Appalachian Wireless Arena on Sunday, Jan. 21.

Moving ahead early, Pikeville outscored Martin County 18-10 in the first quarter.

Pikeville led 31-23 at halftime and owned multiple leads after the intermission period.

After adding to its advantage, Pikeville led 54-43 at the end of the third quarter.

Charlie Fitzer scored a game-high 27 points to lead Pikeville (10-3) to the championship-clinching win.

Joining Fitzer in double figures for the Panthers, Eli Johnson scored 13 points and Heath Jarrell netted 12 points.

Narrowly missing double figures for Pikeville, Carter Hurley contributed nine points and Ian Onkst added eight points.

Aiding Pikeville in its win, Josh Hughes tallied four points.

Luke Hale and Jacob Sturgill scored 17 points apiece to lead the Cardinals.

Accompanying Hale and Sturgill in double figures for Martin County (10-8), Peyton Davis netted 13 points.

Rounding out Martin County’s scoring, Brayden McKenzie contributed six points and Devan Maynard added four points.
