Paintsville tops Fairview 57-6

PAINTSVILLE — Paintsville used a balanced offensive attack to defeat visiting Fairview 57-6 in a Class 1A, District 6 football game on Friday, Oct. 9. The win pushed Paintsville to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in Class 1A, District 6 Fairview fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the district following the loss. Paintsville set the tone early and cruised to the district win. Senior quarterback Jake Hyden led Paintsville to the victory. Hyden completed 7-of-7 passes for 117 yards and three touchdowns. Karsten Poe, Harris Phelps and Zach Taylor hauled in one touchdown pass reception apiece for the Tigers. On the ground, Paintsville rushed 12 times for 173 yards and eight touchdowns. AJ James paced the Tigers in rushing. James rushed two times for 85 yards and one touchdown. Behind James, Zach Thompson took one carry in for a 45-yard rushing touchdown. Harris Phelps, who leads Paintsville in rushing, rushed five times for 32 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively for the Tigers, James and Jonah Porter recorded one interception apiece. Porter returned his picked off pass for a touchdown. Fairview rushed 25 times for 159 yards and one touchdown. Eric Byrd rushed for the Eagles' only touchdown in the loss. Gracin Smith led Fairview's defensive effort, recording a game-high 11 tackles. At press time, Paintsville was searching for an opponent for Friday, Oct. 16.
