Johnson Central rushes past Perry County Central 75-24

PAINTSVILLE — Reigning champion Johnson Central rushed past visiting Perry County Central 75-24 in a Class 4A, District 8 football game on Friday, Oct. 9. Prior to the district matchup, Johnson Central head coach Jim Matney was honored for claiming his 300th career win at Clay County on Friday, Oct. 2. The win allowed Johnson Central to move to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in Class 4A, District 8. Perry County Central dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the district as a result of the loss. The Golden Eagles rushed 23 times for 524 yards and nine touchdowns. Senior Dylan Preston paced Johnson Central on the ground, rushing six times for 216 yards and five touchdowns. Following Preston in the Johnson Central rushing attack, Mason Lawson, Chase Price, Blayden Sexton and Matt Crum added one rushing touchdown apiece. Lawson rushed six times for 126 yards and one touchdown. Through the air for Johnson Central, quarterback Grant Rice connected with Toby Spriggs on a 74-yard touchdown pass. Kicker Austin Ratliff paced Johnson Central on special teams, connecting on 9-of-9 PATs. Defensively, Johnson Central held Perry County Central to 76 yards of total offense. The Commodores rushed for only two yards. Price posted eight tackles, one tackle for a loss and one sack in the Golden Eagles' victory. Johnson Central is scheduled to visit Harlan County for a Class 4A, District 8 football game on Friday, Oct. 16.
