Paintsville to host Martin County for Homecoming

PAINTSVILLE — Paintsville is scheduled to host Martin County for its Homecoming game in the 2023 high school football season.

The Paintsville-Martin County football matchup is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8.

Paintsville and Martin County did not meet during the 2022 high school football season.

The Tigers compiled a 6-6 record in the 2022 high school football season, posting wins over Floyd Central, Knox Central, Fairview, Betsy Layne, Bracken County and Bishop Brossart. Paintsville suffered losses to Beechwood, Pikeville, Somerset, Perry County Central and Raceland in 2022. After suffering a loss when the two teams met during the regular season, Paintsville lost to eventual state champion Pikeville in the second round of the KHSAA Class 1A Playoffs.

Paintsville, Pikeville and Hazard will comprise Class 1A, District 8 for the 2023 and 2024 high school football seasons.

Reaching the second round of the KHSAA Class 2A Playoffs, Martin County compiled a 7-5 record in the 2022 high school football season. Martin County registered wins over Leslie County, Knott County Central, Bath County, East Ridge, West Carter, Prestonsburg and Leslie County in 2022. The Cardinals suffered losses to Greenup County, Fleming County, Shelby Valley, East Carter and Breathitt County during the 2022 high school football season. Breathitt County defeated the Cardinals in the second round of the 2022 KHSAA Class 2A Playoffs.

Martin County is slated to complete in Class 2A, District 7. In addition to Martin County, Class 2A, District 7 includes Floyd Central, Knott County Central and Prestonsburg.
