KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The National Association of Basketball Coaches released its 2022-23 NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards along with the NABC Honors Court and Coach Tigh Compton’s UPIKE Bears were honored.

To qualify for this award, a team must have completed the season with an overall team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Honors Court, however, is for individual players who are juniors, seniors, and graduates who finished the year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above.

Trenton Adkins (Lawrence County High School), Cody Maynard (Lawrence County High School) and Jordan Frazier (Betsy Layne High School) are among the members of the University of Pikeville men’s basketball team.

It is the first time in Coach Tigh Compton’s tenure that the Bears have received this honor, finishing with an overall team GPA of 3.69. UPIKE also set a new program-record six Honors Court recipients. Representing UPIKE on the 2022-23 NABC Honors Court are Devin Collins, Eloge Ntumba, Jacob Brown, Korbin Spencer, Mark Vance Jr. and Teddy Parham Jr.

Coach Tigh Compton was ecstatic when he heard the news, saying “This is a huge honor for our guys and our program.”
