Paintsville stumbles at Beechwood

FORT MITCHELL — Defending Class 2A champion Beechwood pulled away to beat visiting Paintsville 46-7 in a high school football game on Friday, Aug. 26.
Beechwood, which has won back-to-back Class 2A titles, rushed 21 times for 260 yards and five touchdowns in the win.
Mitchell Berger led Beechwood to the win, rushing 13 times for 175 yards and three touchdowns. Contributing on the ground for Beechwood, Chase Flaherty and Antonio Robinson added one rushing touchdown apiece.
Quarterback Cash Harney was nearly perfect through the air for Beechwood in the non-district matchup. Harney completed seven of eight passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns.
Robinson and Liam McCormack each hauled in one touchdown pass reception for Beechwood in the high school football game.
Defensively, Beechwood recorded four sacks and one interception.
Harris Phelps paced Paintsville’s limited offensive attack in the early-season matchup.
Paintsville (1-1) is scheduled to host Pikeville (0-2) for its home opener on Friday, Sept. 2. Kickoff for the Paintsville-Pikeville football game is set for 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Field.
