Cardinals fall at Greenup County

GREENUP — Martin County was held to one touchdown as Greenup County pulled away to win 43-6 in a high school football game on Friday, Aug. 26.
The Cardinals dropped to 1-1.
Greenup County, a member of Class 3A, District 7, moved ahead early in the game and forced the Cardinals to play from behind throughout the matchup.
Quarterback Tyson Sammons led Greenup County to the win. Through the air, Sammons completed seven of eight passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Sammons, who threw one interception, rushed 11 times for 77 yards and two touchdowns in the Musketeers’ victory.
As a team, Greenup County rushed 30 times for 157 yards and four touchdowns.
Braxton Noble and Ike Henderson added one rushing touchdown apiece for the Musketeers in the win.
Brady Howard paced Greenup County in receiving, hauling in three receptions for 64 yards and two touchdowns.
Mason Sammons registered eight tackles for the Musketeers while Jayce Griffith recorded an interception.
Martin County was limited offensively throughout the non-district game. The Cardinals didn’t gain any yardage through the air.
Visiting Martin County rushed 27 times for 112 yards and one touchdown. Dawson Mills led Martin County on the ground, rushing nine times for 81 yards. Contributing offensively for the Cardinals. Madden Miller rushed three times for 23 yards and one touchdown.
Chipping in defensively for Martin County, Brayden Estep recorded one interception.
Martin County is scheduled to visit Fleming County on Friday, Sept. 2. Kickoff for the Martin County-Fleming County football game is set for 7:30 p.m. in Flemingsburg.
