Golden Eagles rush past Fern Creek 55-19

LEXINGTON — Johnson Central rushed for nearly 450 yards on its way to defeating Fern Creek 55-19 in the Bluegrass Bowl at Lexington Catholic High School on Friday, Aug. 26.

Following the win, Johnson Central moved to 2-0.

After trading a touchdown with Fern Creek (1-1) early, Johnson Central gradually pulled away to win convincingly.

The Golden Eagles, under the direction of first-year head coach Jesse Peck, led 40-7 at halftime.

Carter Conley paced Johnson Central on the ground, rushing 13 times for 180 yards and four touchdowns.

Following Conley in Johnson Central’s offensive attack, Zack McCoart rushed eight times for 132 yards and one touchdown.

Aiding the Golden Eagles on the ground, Logan Music and Mason Lawson added one rushing touchdown apiece. Lawson took his first carry out of Johnson Central’s backfield since suffering a season-ending injury early in the 2021 campaign.

Making an impact on the ground and through the air for the Golden Eagles, McCoart hauled in a 45-yard touchdown pass reception.

Delivering on special teams for the Golden Eagles, kicker Sawyer Crum connected on three extra-point kicks.

Ryan Rice led Johnson Central defensively, recording 11 tackles in the Golden Eagles’ win.

Johnson Central is scheduled to visit former district rival North Laurel on Friday, Sept. 2. Kickoff for the Johnson Central-North Laurel football game is set for 7:30 p.m. in London.
