Paintsville posts district win over Johnson Central

PAINTSVILLE – Recording a 57th District girls' basketball win, Paintsville defeated visiting Johnson Central 45-35 on Friday, Jan. 14.

Paintsville shot 32.5 percent (13-of-40) from the field in the district win. The Lady Tigers shot 32 percent (eight-of-25) from three-point range.

Paintsville shot 73.3 percent (11-of-15).from the free throw line as part of the winning effort.

Moving ahead early, Paintsville outscored Johnson Central 14-8 in the first quarter. Paintsville led 22-13 at halftime.

Remaining out in front heading into the final quarter, Paintsville led 36-30 at the conclusion of the third period.

Emilea Preece scored a game-high 16 points to lead Paintsville to the victory. Accompanying Preece in double figures for Paintsville, Kylie Kinner netted 10 points.

Johnson Central shot 31 percent (13-of-42) from the field. The Lady Eagles shot 27.3 percent (six-of-22) from three-point range.

Johnson Central shot 75 percent (three-of-four) from the free throw line.

Clara Blair scored 12 points to lead Johnson Central in the district game. Nearly reaching double figures for Johnson Central, Taylor McKenzie netted nine points.

Paintsville is scheduled to visit Johnson Central for another 57th District girls' basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 5.
