Paintsville eliminates Phelps, falls to Shelby Valley

PIKEVILLE —The Paintsville Lady Tigers eliminated Jenkins before falling to Shelby Valley in the 15th Region All "A" Classic.

Paintsville 58, Jenkins 46

Paintsville defeated Jenkins 58-46 in the opening round of the 15th Region All "A" Classic at Appalachian Wireless Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 6.

Emilea Preece paced Paintsville with a double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.

Former 15th Region champion Paintsville shot 41.9 percent (18-of-43) from the field.

The Lady Tigers shot 51.5 percent (19-of-37) from the free throw line.

Ava Hyden added 15 points, Leandra Curnutte 14 points and Kali Mulcahy 10 points for Paintsville in the win.

Shelby Valley 59, Paintsville 23

Shelby Valley ousted Paintsville from the 15th Region All "A" Classic, defeating the Lady Tigers 59-23 at Appalachian Wireless Arena on Friday, Jan. 8.

Paintsville was limited throughout the tournament game.

Shelby Valley shot 53.3 percent (24-of-45) from the field. Excelling beyond the arc, Shelby Valley shot 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from 3-point range.

Kyra Looney (16 points), Zoee Johnson (14 points), Alyssa Elswick (11 points) and University of Kentucky commit Cassidy Rowe (11 points) each reached double figures in scoring and combined to lead Shelby Valley to the victory.
