Bulldogs defeat Phelps, Fairview

LOUISA — Lawrence County opened the 2020-21 boys' high school basketball season with back-to-back wins, defeating both Phelps and Fairview.

The Bulldogs are back on the court after finishing as the 2019-20 15th Region runner-up.

Lawrence County 60, Phelps 40

Trenton Adkins scored 18 points and teammates Baden Gillispie and Cody Maynard added 11 points apiece as Lawrence County beat visiting Phelps 60-40 in a boys' high school basketball season opener on Tuesday, Jan. 5.

The Bulldogs and Hornets are former district rivals.

Lawrence County shot 43.9 percent (25-of-57) from the field. The Bulldogs were 7-of-27 from 3-point range.

Aiding Lawrence County offensively, Kaden Gillispie chipped in seven points, Will Lafferty added five points and Brody Diamond netted four points.

Lawrence County 76, Fairview 56

Remaining in the win column on the road, Lawrence County topped host Fairview 76-59 on Wednesday, Jan. 6.

Lawrence County shot 50.9 percent (29-of-57) from the field. The Bulldogs were 3-of-15 from 3-point range.

Lawrence County shot 65.2 percent (15-of-23) from 3-point range.

Visiting Lawrence County featured five scorers, each of whom reached double figures.

Trenton Adkins (19 points), Cody Maynard (16 points), Kaden Gillispie (15 points), Baden Gillispie (14 points) and Will Lafferty (12 points) provided Lawrence County's scoring in the win.

Fairview lost despite shooting 69.2 percent (9-of-13) from 3-point range.

Jaxon Manning (20 points), Tanner Johnson (12 points) and Steven Day (9 points) combined to account for 40-plus points for Fairview in the loss.
