Paintsville claims district win over Magoffin County 54-32

PAINTSVILLE – Paintsville defeated visiting Magoffin County 54-32 in a 57th District girls' basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 13.

After notching the win, Paintsville improved to 7-4 overall and 2-2 in the 57th District.

Magoffin County dropped to 3-10 overall and 0-5 in the district following the loss.

Paintsville shot 28.6 percent (22-of-77) from the field. The Lady Tigers were 7-of-38 from 3-point range.

Paintsville shot 50 percent (3-of-6) from the free throw line.

Leandra Curnutte scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Curnutte was 6-of-9 from 3-point range.

Accompanying Curnutte in double figures in scoring for Paintsville, Emilea Preece finished with 18 points.

Magoffin County shot 24.4 percent (10-of-41) from the field. The Lady Hornets were 1-of-9) from 3-point range.

Magoffin County shot 55 percent (11-of-20) from the free throw line.

Angel Mullis led Magoffin County with a double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds. Mullis has averaged a double-double for Magoffin County throughout the 2020-21 girls' high school basketball season. She is one of the top girls' high school basketball rebounders in the state.
