Newsome earns UPike program’s first All-American honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — University of Pikeville women’s golfer Boo Newsome has been named an NAIA Third Team All-American. Newsome, a native of Martin County, became the first student-athlete in University of Pikeville women’s golf program history to be honored as an All-American.
During the 2022 women’s college golf season, Newsome also became the first golfer in program history to be named NAIA National Golfer of the Week. Other accolades included her being named First Team All Mid-South Conference and the MSC Golfer of the Week five times.
Thriving throughout her final campaign for the Bears, Newsome won four tournaments to give her 16 career wins, which is the program record. She also tied the program record with a 54-hole score of 224 at the IWU Fall Invitational in October of 2021. The Martin County product was second in program history with a low round of 68 and a low 36-hole score of 142, which both occurred at the Alice Lloyd Fall Invitational in September 2021. Her average score of 75.67 for the season is also second in program history.
