Feltner, Preece competing in Appalachian League

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — Morehead State University standouts Jackson Feltner and Ryley Preece are competing for the Bluefield Ridge Runners in the Appalachian League.

A first baseman, Feltner is a Lawrence County High School graduate.

A center fielder, Preece is a Johnson Central High School graduate.

In all, 17 members of the Morehead State University baseball team are competing in collegiate summer baseball leagues. The Eagles finished 27-27 in 2022 after falling to Tennessee Tech on May 25, However, most of the starting lineup, starting rotation, and bullpen are due to return for Morehead State in the 2023 college baseball season.

The Appalachian League is a collegiate summer baseball league that operates in the Appalachian regions of Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina. Designed for rising freshmen and sophomores using wood bats, its season runs from June to August. The league is part of Major League Baseball and USA Baseball’s Prospect Development Pipeline.

The members of the Appalachian League are the Bluefield Ridge Runners, Burlington Sock Puppets, Danville Otterbots, Princeton WhistlePigs, Pulaski River Turtles, Bristol State Liners, Elizabethtown River Riders, Greeneville Flyboys, Johnson City Doughboys and Kingsport Axmen.
