Newsome earns medalist honor, UPIKE finishes third

PRESTONSBURG – The University of Pikeville women's golf team finished up the UPIKE Fall Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 26, placing third in the tournament with a score of 650 (321, 329).

Leading the way for UPike was graduate student Boo Newsome, a Martin County native who shot a two-day score of 150 (71, 79). Newsome earned medalist honors for the second consecutive tournament and 14th tournament win of her career. She bested the rest of the field by three strokes and was named to the All-Tournament team.

Other players who finished in the Top 15 for UPIKE were freshman Sophie Beverly (83,80) and sophomore Gabriel Blankenship (84, 82).
