Cardinals upend East Ridge in district game 48-16

INEZ — Claiming its third straight win, Martin County upended East Ridge 48-16 in a Class 2A, District 8 game on Friday, Oct. 1.
The win allowed Martin County to improve to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in Class 2A, District 8.
Martin County rushed 44 times for 487 yards and seven touchdowns in the district win.
Dawson Mills led Martin County on the ground, rushing 14 times for 187 yards and one touchdown.
Following Mills, Kolby Sparks rushed 15 times for 163 yards for the Cardinals.
Four different Martin County players provided at least one rushing touchdown in the win.
Branson Smith rushed eight times for 74 yards and two touchdowns for visiting Martin County.
From his position at quarterback for the Cardinals, Jason Maynard rushed four times for 28 yards and three touchdowns.
Contributing to Martin County's offensive attack, Madden Miller rushed two times for 19 yards and one touchdown.
Defensively, Martin County limited East Ridge throughout the district matchup.
Through the air for East Ridge, quarterbacks Dylan Burdine and Zack Mason combined to complete 12 of 21 passes for 150 yards.
Brad Howell paced East Ridge in receiving, making four catches for 55 yards.
East Ridge rushed 47 times for 169 yards and two touchdowns in the setback. Mason led the Warriors on the ground, rushing 12 times for 51 yards. Burdine and Isaiah Adkins added one rushing touchdown apiece for the Warriors.
Martin County is scheduled to host Shelby Valley for another Class 2A, District 8 game on Friday, Oct. 8.
