Golden Eagles defeat Russell, fall to Belfry

RUSSELL — Visiting Johnson Central pulled away to defeat Russell 11-1 in six innings in a high school baseball game on Thursday, March 24.
The Golden Eagles moved ahead early and forced Russell to play from behind during the high school baseball matchup.
Bryce Spencer started on the mound or the Golden Eagles and earned the win. Spencer pitched four innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks while recording five strikeouts.
Cameron Kelsey closed out the game on the mound for the Golden Eagles. Kelsey pitched two innings, holding Russell hitless and scoreless while registering three strikeouts.
Johnson Central scored 11 runs on nine hits. Seven different Johnson Central players connected for at least one hit.
Keygan Pelfrey paced Johnson Central at the plate, collecting two hits in four at-bats. Pelfrey doubled, homered and delivered four RBIs.
Kelsey went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Golden Eagles, driving in one run.
Contributing to Johnson Central’s offensive attack, Conner Lemaster homered and drove in one run.

Belfry managed to upend Johnson Central 11-9 in a high school baseball game on Friday, March 25.
Conner Lemaster started on the mound for the Golden Eagles and suffered the loss. Lemaster pitched three innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits and two walks while recording seven strikeouts.
Johnson Central was limited to four hits. Lemaster, Brock Butcher, Matt Crum and Mason Baldwin recorded one hit apiece for the Golden Eagles. Continuing to excel at the plate, Lemaster homered and drove in three runs.
