UPIKE claims WGCA All-Scholar Award

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — The University of Pikeville women’s golf team, under the direction of Coach Nelson Scott, finished first in the NAIA for the 2022-23 Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-Scholar Team GPA Award.

The Bears finished atop the NAIA with a collective GPA of 3.833. Along with leading the NAIA, UPIKE led the Mid-South Conference with eight MSC Academic All-Conference selections and six Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete honorees.

Darby Chapman (Lawrence County High School), Gabrielle Blankenship (Martin County High School) and Mallory Davis (Martin County High School) are among the members of the University of Pikeville women’s golf team. UPIKE graduate Boo Newsome (Martin County High School) is a volunteer assistant coach for the Bears.

The University of Pikeville women’s golf team will open its 2023-24 season with the UPIKE Fall Invitational at StoneCrest Golf Course in Prestonsburg on Monday, Aug. 28.
