Maynard scores 2,000th point in Bulldogs' win over Raceland

WORTHINGTON — Senior guard Cody Maynard scored his 2,000th point on the way to leading Lawrence County past host Raceland 65-50 in the Derby Classic on Tuesday, Dec. 21.
Ironically, Maynard scored his 1,000th point on the same day and in the same gym in 2019.
Maynard paced Lawrence County in the matchup, scoring a game-high 22 points for the Bulldogs.
Lawrence County carried a lead out of each quarter. The Bulldogs outscored Raceland 19-15 in the opening quarter and remained in control throughout the contest. Lawrence County outscored Raceland 21-13 in the second quarter to lead 40-28 at halftime.
The Bulldogs led 51-38 at the end of the third quarter.
Accompanying Maynard in double figures for the Bulldogs, Trenton Adkins scored 22 points and Tyler Johnson netted 10 points.
Kaden Gillispie (seven points), Andrew Bloomfield (six points) and Will Lafferty (four points) provided Lawrence County's additional scoring.
The Bulldogs drained four three-point field goals while connecting on five of nine free throw attempts.
Both Lawrence County and Raceland featured three scorers in double figures.
Andrew Floyd paced Raceland, scoring a team-high 18 points for the Rams. Joining Floyd in double figures for Raceland, Jacob Gauze scored 13 points and Landyn Newman netted 10 points.
Lawrence County moved to 9-0 after notching the win.
Following the loss, Raceland dropped to 3-6.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to host the Rams for a regular season finale on Wednesday, Feb. 16.
