Lady Bulldogs finish 2-1 in Carolina Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Lawrence County Lady Bulldogs won two of three games in the Carolina Invitational, a holiday basketball tournament played Tuesday, Dec. 28, through Thursday, Dec. 30.
Providence Day (NC) 68,
Lawrence County 43
Lawrence County was limited offensively as Providence Day (N.C.) won 68-43 in the opening round of the Carolina Invitational on Tuesday, Dec. 28.
The defending 58th District champion, Lawrence County shot only 28.9 percent (11-of-38) from the field. However, Lawrence County shot 88.9 percent (16-of-18) from the free throw line.
Kensley Feltner led Lawrence County with a double-double, scoring 25 points and hauling in 12 rebounds. Fletner was the only Lawrence County player to reach double figures.
Narrowly missing double figures in scoring for Lawrence County, Sophie Adkins added nine points.
Lawrence County 66,
Lakewood (SC) 17
Lawrence County pulled away to defeat Lakewood (SC) 66-17 in the second round of the Carolina Invitational on Wednesday, Dec. 29.
Returning to the win column, Lawrence County shot 44.1 percent (26-of-59) from the field in the win over Lakewood. The Lady Bulldogs shot 33.3 percent (four-of-12) from three-point range.
Lawrence County shot 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the free throw line.
Kaison Ward scored 17 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs to the victory. Joining Ward in double figures for Lawrence County, Abby Nelson and Kensley Feltner netted 12 points apiece while Sophie Adkins added 10 points.
Nearly reaching double figures for the Lady Bulldogs, Tyra Hammond contributed eight points.
Leading Lawrence County in rebounding, Feltner claimed eight rebounds.

James Island (SC) 48
Lawrence County rolled past James Island (SC) 79-48 on the final day of the Carolina Invitational on Thursday, Dec. 30.
Scoring nearly 80 points, Lawrence County shot 45.9 percent (28-of-61) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs shot 36.4 percent (eight-of-22) from three-point range.
Lawrence County shot 71.4 percent (15-of-21) from the free throw line.
Kensley Feltner poured in a game-high 33 points to lead Lawrence County to the win.
Joining Feltner in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs, Kaison Ward contributed 15 points and Sophie Adkins added 12 points.
Abby Nelson, who chipped in seven points, pulled down a game-high nine rebounds for Lawrence County.
